The Assam Police have arrested one person for replacing an original diamond worth Rs 2 crore with a fake one at a jewellery shop in Guwahati.
On Tuesday (July 27), Pradip Dutta, resident of Guwahati’s Kalapahar Bhaskar Nagar area lodged an FIR at Fatasil Ambari Police Station to the effect that complainant has a jewellery shop and that a few months back one person namely Sandeep Kumar Pandey came to his shop to purchase a diamond in his shop.
He said that the Pandey came to inspect the diamond twice and also assured to purchase it. However on June 4, Dutta came to know that the diamond had been replaced with a fake one by the accused Sandeep Kr. Pandey and was absconding.
Accordingly, Fatasil Ambari Police Station registered a case and started investigating.
During police investigation, accused Sandeep Kr. Pandey was apprehended and during interrogation he confessed that he had replaced the original diamond with a fake one.
The original dimaond upon testing by a certified gemologists, found to be of 120.98 Carat and its estimated market value is Rs 2 crore.
Sharing the news, the Guwahati Police in a tweet wrote, “Diamond Heist – Mr ‘A’ Style… Sandeep Pandey wanted to #Dhoom machao with a 2 Crore diamond, but his plans were foiled & now heโs glittering under the lock-up lights. Pandey had replaced an original diamond with a fake one at a jewellery shop. We were faster!!!”
