To promote a greener environment in Guwahati, the Assam Government is planning to build an urban forest in Borbari area, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday (July 25).

CM Sarma said that the hillock at Borbari will be converted into a ‘Mini Forest’.

“Borbari hill has an area of four sq km and 1,400 tree saplings will be planted on the hillock,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister further added that this initiative will act like new lungs in the heart of the city and these efforts will also lead to geological stability of the hillock and surrounding areas.

The project will be undertaken by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

Sharing details of the project, CM Sarma wrote in a tweet, “We are planning to build a forest in the heart of Guwahati.”
