18 Killed, Several Injured After Truck Hits Bus In Uttar Pradesh

At least 18 people from Bihar were killed and several injured after a speeding truck hit a double-decker bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki early on Wednesday (July 28).

As per reports, the bus with around 140 labourers on board was on its way from Palwal in Haryana to Bihar.

The bus was parked on the roadside after it broke down when the truck hit the bus from behind.

Some of the workers were still inside the bus while others were sleeping next to it when the accident happened.

Over two dozen people were injured in the accident.

Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath express condolences.

PM Modi has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 to those injured.

“Deeply saddened by the news of road accident in Barabanki, UP. My condolences to the bereaved families. I have also spoken to CM Yogi Adityanath. Arrangements are being made for proper treatment of all the injured,” the prime minister said.

President Ram Nath Kovind said: “Deeply pained by the news of the untimely death of many people in a road accident in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. In this hour of grief, I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also announces an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of the kin of those bus passengers.
