Landslide In Meghalaya Kills Two Women Cricketers

In a tragic incident, two women cricketers lost their lives and three persons have gone missing after a massive landslide triggered by incessant rainfall hit their houses at Mawnei in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district on Friday.

The victims have been identified as Razia Ahmed and Ferozia Khan.

Razia played for the state at the national level, and Ferozia was a local player. Their bodies had been recovered from the debris.

Razia had represented the state in various national-level tournaments since 2011-12.

East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) Sylvester Nongtynger said that efforts are on find out the missing persons.

It should be mentioned here that incessant rainfall in the state since Monday has left a trail of devastation across the state.

Earlier, two workers engaged by the police in clearing the debris at their quarters in Shillong died on Thursday.

Landslides were also reported from several areas across the state and PWD workers were pressed into service to clear the debris.
