Assam Flood Situation Improves, Nearly 24,000 People Still Affected

The flood situation in Assam improved as the number of affected people came down to 23,447 across the state, informed Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Friday (July 21).

According to ASDMA, no death was reported in the last 24 hours and the overall death toll in this year’s flood in the state remains at nine.

Till Thursday (July 20), the number of affected people was 36,469.

The districts/sub-divisions still affected by flood are – Barpeta, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Morigaon and Sivasagar.

At present, Sivasagar is the worst hit with 17,928 people affected, followed by Barpeta with 3,417 people and Biswanath with 1,258 people affected.

ASDMA in its latest bulletin said that 112 villages in nine revenue circles are still affected by the floods.

At present, nine persons are currently taking shelter in relief camps.

Meanwhile, Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger level in Dhubri, the ASDMA said.
