Jio Launches True 5G Services In Guwahati

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (January 10) launched the Jio True 5G service at an event held in Guwahati.

Alongside its True 5G services that were launched in Guwahati, Jio has also launched its True 5G-powered free Wi-Fi service at the Kamakhya Temple complex.

Amongst the numerous benefits of True 5G, healthcare was chosen as the sector for a demo.

Speaking at the launch event, CM Sarma said, “I am extremely happy to launch Jio’s true 5G services in Guwahati. I believe that a true 5G has the potential to make healthcare accessible to all across different geographical regions of Assam. Today’s demonstrated health solution i.e. ‘Clinic in a Bag’ can help grassroots health workers and ASHA workers. It has a simple design and can connect wirelessly to medical equipment over 5G. With the help of specialist doctors, health workers can treat patients even in the most remote areas of Assam.

“My government is fully committed to speedy rollout of 5G services in Assam. By implementing 5G-based healthcare solutions and creating a digital health eco-system in Assam, we can fulfill our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission,” he said.

“Apart from its existing investment of Rs 9,500 crore in Assam, Jio is investing over Rs 2,500 crore to deploy a true 5G network in the state. By December 2023, Jio True 5G service will be made available in every town and taluka of Assam,” the Chief Minister added.

Speaking on the occasion, a Jio spokesperson said, “With the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, Jio is launching true 5G services in Assam today. Jio will provide free true 5G Wi-Fi on the temple premises to all devotees visiting the Kamakhya temple.”

“From January 10, Jio users in Guwahati and seven additional cities across four states of Karnataka (Hubli-Dharwad, Mangalore, Belgaum), Kerala (Chertala), Telangana (Warangal, Karimnagar) and Maharashtra (Solapur) will be offered the Jio welcome offer. Under the offer, users will get unlimited data at speeds of 1 Gbps+ at no extra cost,” the company said in a statement.
