Assam: CM Sarma Announces Series Of Developmental Projects In Guwahati

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (November 4) announced several developmental projects in Guwahati.

CM Sarma made the announcement while inaugurating the newly built two-lane flyover at Dispur-Supermarket in Guwahati.

The 1.21 km long T-shaped double-lane flyover, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 127-crore, connects Janata Bhawan to Downtown and Supermarket to Last Gate in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sarma gave a snapshot of different infrastructure projects in the state and their level of implementation.

CM Sarma said that state government will construct one more flyover to serve R.G. Baruah Road – Geetanagar tri-junction.

Another flyover from Guwahati Club to Bamunimaidan area will also be built and DPR is on the advanced stage of completion, the Chief Minister said.

Moreover, flyovers will also be built at Basistha Chariali and Gorchuk area.

The Chief Minister also said that it has been the commitment of the new dispensation in Assam to adhere to timely completion of the projects to avoid cost over run and giving the people taste of development works.

He also said that the under-construction Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge over the Brahmaputra will be inaugurated by December 2023.

AIIMS at Changsari will be inaugurated this financial year. Two more under construction flyovers at Sarabbhati and Maligaon will also be completed within 2023, the Chief Minister added.

Further, the government is also examining construction of a six-lane ring road connecting Baihata-Sipajhar, Kuruwa-Narengi to connect it to the national highway. The DPR for the project is underway and the work will be taken up under Bharat Mala Project.

He said that in the next five year of this present government besides the existing Saraighat Bridge, there will be three more bridges connecting Narengi- Kuruwa, the under-construction Guwahati- North Guwahati bridge and Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge to address the connectivity bottleneck of the people living along the South and North Bank of the river Brahmaputra.

CM Sarma also informed the drinking water project of Guwahati is nearing completion.

He informed that government is also working sincerely for the Brahmaputra river front beautification project besides creating new gardens in Hengrabari, Fancy Bazar and Maligaon areas.

An integrated sports complex will be built at the now defunct Chandrapur Thermal Power project area in line with Sarusajai Sports Complex, CM Sarma added.
