Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (August 31) called Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to enquire about flood situation in the state.
The Prime Minister also assured all possible support from the Centre to help mitigate the situation.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Spoke to Assam CM Shri @himantabiswa and took stock of the flood situation in parts of the state. Assured all possible support from the Centre to help mitigate the situation. I pray for the safety and well-being of those living in the affected areas.”

CM Sarma also took to Twitter and said the Prime Minister has assured all help to combat this menace.
“Adarniya Pradhan Mantri Narendra Modi telephoned today to enquire about flood situation and assured all help to Assam to combat this menace. Current flood has gravely impacted the livelihoods of people. My gratitude to Adarniya Modi Ji for standing with us at this hour of crisis,” CM Sarma said in a tweet.

A total of 3,63,135 people have been affected across 21 districts of Assam (Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong West, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara and Tinsukia districts) as flood situation deteriorated on Sunday (August 30).
Further, two deaths reported during the day. One child each in Barpeta and Morigaon districts drowned in floodwaters.
Lakhimpur is the worst-affected district with at least 1,30,001 people are reeling under floodwaters in the district. While 64,909 people are affected by floods in Majuli district.
1,619 people are taking shelter at 44 relief camps set up by authorities.
