Indian Photojournalist Danish Siddiqui Killed During Clashes In Afghanistan

Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was killed in clashes in Kandahar city in Afghanistan on Friday (July 16).

As per reports, he was killed while he was on a reporting assignment embedded with the Afghan Special Forces.

Condoling Danish Siddiqui’s demise, Farid Mamundzay, Afghanistan’s Ambassador to India, tweeted: “Deeply disturbed by the sad news of the killing of a friend, Danish Seddiqi in Kandahar last night. The Indian Journalist & winner of Pulitzer Prize was embedded with Afghan security forces. I met him 2 weeks ago before his departure to Kabul. Condolences to his family & Reuters.”

Siddiqui, who worked for Reuters and was based in Mumbai, was also awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize.

On July 13, Siddiqui had tweeted ‘lucky to be safe’ recalling how the vehicle he was travelling in came under attack by the Taliban.

“The Humvee in which I was travelling with other special forces was also targeted by at least 3 RPG rounds and other weapons. I was lucky to be safe and capture the visual of one of the rockets hitting the armour plate overhead,” he said in a thread of tweets.

As a photojournalist, Danish Siddiqui covered wide rage of issues across the world. Some of his major works include covering the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Rohingya refugees crisis, Hong Kong protests and Nepal earthquakes, reports India Today.

In the last few days, Danish Siddiqui was covering the situation in Afghanistan’s Kandahar amid heightened tension in the area.

Reportedly, he died when the Afghan Special Forces came under attack by Taliban.
