The ninth cabinet meeting of the newly formed Assam government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was held on Wednesday (July 14) at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati where several important decisions were taken.
The following decisions were taken in the meeting of the Assam Council of Ministers:
1. During winter when production is less in tea gardens, workers to be employed in MGNREGA jobs such as pond excavation, road construction, etc.
2. Under MGNREGA, valuable trees such as Agar, Sandalwood, etc., to be planted and community ponds to ve created on a large scale for economic benefit.
3. Guwahati Development & Urban Development Departments to be merged and renamed as Housing & Urban Affairs Department.
4. Secretariat Administration Department to be merged with General Administration Department.
5. I&PR Minister to be empowered to directly approve payment against advertisement dues of print and electronic media.
6. 15th Finance Commission funds to be utilised for the renovation of schools, Anganwadi centres, and local parks.
7. Golaghat and Sarupathar declared as drought-hit revenue circles. Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan and Irrigation Minister Ashok Singhal will travel the affected area in presence of Finance Minister Ajanta Neog and inquire about drought incidents for releasing compensations.
8. Current residence of Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court declared as a heritage building.
