Legendary Actor Dilip Kumar Passes Away At 98

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday (July 7) morning.

He passed away due to prolonged illness.

The actor was 98 and is survived by his wife, veteran actor Saira Banu.

Dilip Kumar breathed his last at 7.30 am in Mumbai’s Khar Hinduja Hospital.

Informing fans of the tragic news, family friend of Dilip Kumar, Faisal Farooqui tweeted from the actor’s official Twitter handle, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui.”

Dilip Kumar was hospitalised twice in June this year. He was rushed to the hospital on June 6 after experiencing breathlessness and was later discharged on June 11. The actor was put on oxygen support at the time and a successful pleural aspiration procedure was performed.

However, he started facing similar breathing issues on June 30 and was again hospitalised again.

Dilip Kumar played prominent roles in several classic Hindi language films in the 1950s and 1960s.

Some of his best known films are Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Ram Aur Shyam, Naya Daur, Madhumati, Kranti, Vidhaata, Shakti and Mashaal, to name just a few.

He was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 1991 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
