The Assam government has decided to provide free vaccines to people in the age group of 18-45 years from May 1.
The state government also confirmed that it has placed an order of over 1 crore vaccine doses to successfully execute the proposed vaccination programme.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Assam will give free vaccines to everyone from 18-45 years GOI is giving free vaccines for 45+. Funds collected in Assam Arogya Nidhi last year shall be utilised for the procurement of vaccines.”
“Today, we have placed orders for 1 crore doses with Bharat Biotech,” he added.

In a letter to Bharat Biotech, the Assam government stated that it plans to avail the new initiative announced by the Centre, so that maximum number of eligible people in the below 45 years age category in the state are able to get the benefits of vaccination in the shortest possible time.
The state government placed an order of one crore doses of COVAXIN at the rate which will be fixed by the Centre.
“It is intimated that National Health Mission (NHM), Assam will be the nodal agency for this procurement of the vaccine on behalf of the Assam govt,” the state government said while concluding the letter.
