More Than 5 Crore COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered In India So Far

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Wednesday, March 24 said that more than 5 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given across India, a milestone which has been achieved on the 67th day of the COVID-19 vaccination drive.

“India has crossed a significant milestone in the fight against the global pandemic. The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 5 crores on Tuesday,” the MoHFW said.

As per the provisional report till 7 am on Wednesday, a total of 5,08,41,286 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given.

These include 79,17,521 Health Care Workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose and 50,20,695 HCWs who have taken the second dose, 83,62,065 Front Line Workers (FLWs) (first dose), 30,88,639 FLWs (second dose), 2,17,50,472 beneficiaries more than 60 years old (first dose) and 47,01,894 beneficiaries aged 45 and above with specific co-morbidities (first dose).

Of the 23,46,692 vaccine doses given on Tuesday, 21,00,799 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first dose and 2,45,893 HCWs and FLWs received the second dose of vaccine.

The Ministry said beneficiaries must insist on receiving a hard copy or a digital copy/link of their vaccination certificate.

This is to be noted that India had started the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination drive on January 16, 2021.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Centre announced that now all people above 45 years of age can take the COVID-19 vaccine.

“It has been decided that from April 1, the COVID-19 vaccine will open for everybody above 45 years of age. We request that all eligible should immediately register and get vaccinated,” Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said.
