PM Narendra Modi To Address IIT-Guwahati Online Convocation On September 22

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will conduct its 22nd convocation virtually on September 22 and the chief guest Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually congratulate and address the students.

The convocation will begin at 12 noon and all the participants at the event will be attending it from their respective homes or offices. PM Modi will address the convocation from New Delhi.

The guest of honour will be Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, and Sanjay Dhotre, the Minister of State for Education.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be the special guest.

The virtual convocation will be addressed by Dr. Rajiv Modi, the Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Guwahati and Prof. TG Sitharam, the Director of IIT Guwahati.

To celebrate the graduate’s accomplishments online through virtual mode, the Institute has created a virtual reality-based award distribution where one can experience an avatar of the recipient of the award collecting a medal from Director’s own avatar surrogating him, from the comfort of their home. The Institute has also created a photo-booth, with an option of different backgrounds, for students to take pictures at some selected locations on the campus.

IIT Guwahati’s faculty and students have developed a telepresence module for a virtual visit to the Institute.

Earlier this year, IIT Bombay and IIT Gandhinagar also held their virtual convocations.
