TikTok Goes Completely Offline In India, Shows Internet Error

TikTok has now completely stopped working in India. TikTok now shows error messages such as “Network error” and “No internet connection” on almost all cellular and broadband networks in India.

After the Indian government imposed a ban on TikTok and 58 other Chinese app on Monday, the app was delisted from Google Play and App Store both soon after.

However, it continued to work for those who had it already installed on their phone. Now, the TikTok app has completely stopped working on all devices, including the desktop website, and a user notice is displayed inside the app to inform users about the ban.

The TikTok app now shows a network error alongside a notice that reads, “Dear users, we are in the process of complying with the Government of India’s directive to block 59 apps. Ensuring the privacy and security of all our users in India remains our utmost priority.”

The website has a message informing users of the ban, and notes that they are ‘working with the government to better understand the issue and explore a course of action.’

TikTok India head Nikhil Gandhi earlier today said that it is talking to the government over the moratorium imposed on its use in India.

“TikTok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and have not shared any information of our users in India with any foreign government, including the Chinese Government. Further, if we are requested to in the future we would not do so. We place the highest importance on user privacy and integrity,” Nikhil Gandhi said.

Apart from TikTok, the Indian government has also banned 58 other Chinese apps.

The government said that these Chinese apps are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state, and public order.
