With 1,897 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in the past 24 hours, the total number of cases in India has gone up to 31,332, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health.
There was a sharp increase in the COVID-19 fatalities. COVID-19 has claimed 73 lives in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in the country to 1007. This is the highest single-day toll in India since COVID-19 had emerged.
Health Ministry data showed that 7,696 people who had been infected with coronavirus have recovered. At present, there are 22,629 active coronavirus patients in the country.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said that 80 districts in the country have not witnessed any new COVID-19 case in the last seven days, while 47 districts have not registered any fresh case in the last 14 days.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 9,318 cases and 400 deaths. Followed by Gujarat (3744 and 181 deaths), Delhi (3314 cases and 54 deaths), Madhya Pradesh (2387 and 120 deaths), Rajasthan (2364 cases and 51 deaths), Tamil Nadu (2058 cases and 25 deaths) and Uttar Pradesh (2053 and 34 deaths).
Deaths have so far been reported from Maharashtra-400, Gujarat-181, Madhya Pradesh-120, Delhi-54, Rajasthan-51, Andhra Pradesh-31, Uttar Pradesh-34, Telangana-26, Tamil Nadu-25, Karnataka-20, West Bengal-22, Punjab-19, Jammu and Kashmir-8, Kerala-4, Haryana-3, Jharkhand-3, Bihar-2, Odisha-1, Assam-1, Meghalaya-1 and Himachal Pradesh-1.
7,696 people, 24% of all the positive cases, have recovered from the disease.
Maharashtra has the highest number of recovered patient at 1388.
