Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan passes away on Wednesday morning. He was 53.
The critically acclaimed actor was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Tuesday to seek treatment for a colon infection.
The news of his death was broken by filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, who took to Twitter and wrote:
“My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om shanti. Irfaan Khan salute,” Shoojit Sircar wrote.

As soon as the shocking news came, many Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Shoojit Sircar, politicians like Arvind Kejriwal and his fans took to Twitter to pour in condolences.

Irrfan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018 and sought treatment in the UK for a year. The actor returned to India in February 2019 and shortly resumed shooting for his film, Angrezi Medium.
Irrfan made his Bollywood debut with Salaam Bombay in 1988, and has worked in several films since then. His last release was Angrezi Medium.
He was also part of many Hollywood films, from Jurassic World to Slumdog Millionaire.
