The National Health Mission (NHM), Assam on Sunday clarified that the person admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is infected with measles and not Coronavirus.
NHM in a statement said, “The person admitted in GMCH with fever and skin rash symptoms is infected with measles. The person is not identified as a positive Coronavirus patient and is kept under observation.” Measles is a very contagious respiratory infection. It causes body rash and flu-like symptoms.
Earlier in the day, a man hailing from Assam’s Morigaon district was screened at the LGBI Airport, Guwahati upon his arrival from Kerala. Following which he was referred to the GMCH with suspected infection of Coronavirus.
The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) also clarified that no symptoms of the deadly Coronavirus were detected in the man.
“One youth of Morigaon district who works in Kerala has been sent to GMCH. He is being treated for viral fever, rash. Sample collected and sent to Pune. However, no symptions of Coronavirus found,” GMCH authorities said.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that no Coronavirus case has so far been reported in the state.
