IIT-Guwahati Ranked 20th In Top 50 Young Universities In Chemistry

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati) has been ranked 20th among the ‘Top 50 young universities in chemistry’ in 2019, according to Nature Index.

IIT-G received 17.30 fractional count in 2019 and 19 article count in 2018 in the subject.

IIT-Guwahati is the only IIT to be featured in the list which also has a total of 8 institutions from India, 13 from China, 6 from Australia, 5 from South Korea, 3 from Germany, 3 each from France, Spain and the United States, 1 each from Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Sweden and Switzerland.

While speaking to the media about the achievement of the institution, IIT-Guwahati Director, Professor, T.G. Sitharam said that Research and Development are an integral part of the activities of the institute and that IIT Guwahati conducts world-class research along with the regular academic programmes under all the departments and academic centres in the institution.

He also pointed out that the position of IIT Guwahati in this ranking reflects the vision of taking the institution from being a ‘Tower of Excellence’ to a ‘Network of Excellence’. The Institute is committed to work in the direction so that it can extend its contribution towards the development of the nation.

According to the data available on the number of research outputs for IIT-Guwahati published between October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019, Physical Sciences has 36 with 8.62 output share, Chemistry has 27 with 22.08 output share and Life Sciences has 2 with 0.39 output share.

The Nature Index tracks the affiliations of high-quality scientific articles from different institutions and updates the same in the research database on a monthly basis.
