The five vaccines granted Emergency Use Authorisation in India are – Serum Institute’s Covishield, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Russia’s Sputnik V, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
The US-based pharmaceutical company had applied for Emergency Use Authorisation for its vaccine on August 5 and was granted approval by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
The company also claims that its vaccine, in clinical trials, proved to be 85% effective in preventing severe disease. The vaccine also showed protection against the Delta variant and other emerging strains.
