Nagaland Cricketer Jonathan Rongsen Signs To Play For UK Club Morecambe CC

Captain of Nagaland cricket team Jonathan Rongsen Longkumer has signed with UK-based cricket club, Morecambe CC, for the 2021 season.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Morecambe CC are pleased to announce the signing of a new professional Rongsen Jonathan for the 2021 season.”

“Rongsen, an experienced batsman who can bowl off-spin, currently plays for Nagaland in the Ranji Trophy, and will join MCC as a replacement for Mitchel Van Buuren,” it said.

Morecambe Cricket Club was founded in 1889, and is one of the oldest English cricket clubs in Lancashire.

Jonathan (34) is an all-rounder, right-hand batsman and medium-pacer from Akhoya village in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district.

Born on October 4, 1986, Jonathan Rongsen Longkumer made his first-class debut for the Railways in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy on December 6, 2013.

Ahead of the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, he transferred from Railways to Nagaland cricket team. He scored a century in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Nagaland and Manipur.

Congratulating the cricketer, Nagaland deputy chief minister Yanthungo Patton wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations to Mr. Jonathan Rongsen Longkumer, skipper of Nagaland cricket team and an inspiration to many, on joining Morecambe Cricket Club! We’re immensely proud and look forward to seeing him in action. My best wishes to him on the new responsibility!”
